ABOUT US

About Us

A warm welcome awaits you at Mortimer West End Chapel! The Chapel is an open and welcoming Christian community and we are committed to loving God and putting Christ at the centre of our lives. Our relaxed and informal services and gatherings have a real sense of joy, love and welcome - we organise get-togethers with Jesus!

As a local church we are committed to serving one another and to serving our neighbours in mission. We are also committed to learning and growing together. Every Sunday we gather for our Sunday Service followed by friendship, coffee and cakes which are often homemade as we have some really good cooks in our church family!  There are lots of other wonderful things going on you can get involved in across any given month, please look at our Get Involved page to find out more.

The Chapel is a Grade II* listed building built in 1798 and is surrounded by five acres of woodland and buildings; there has been a Christian community using the site ever since. Alongside the original Chapel building, where we hold our Sunday Services, there is a manse cottage where previous ministers lived with their families. We also have a Schoolroom with a well-equipped kitchen and two loos, one with disabled access, that is now used as a community and meeting hall. In addition, our wooden chalet is divided into two meeting rooms and we use all the rooms on the site to accommodate the various age groups and their activities when we run our weekly youth and children’s programme on Sundays.

Accessibility

Disabled parking is provided close to the Chapel front door and temporary ramps are available for use but please call ahead and seek assistance. We have a disabled loo in the Schoolroom which is just opposite the Chapel. Sung worship is a common feature of our meetings which may not be suitable for those with audio sensitivity and we have a hearing aid loop system in the Chapel.

Parking

We have ample parking at the Chapel including disabled parking close to the Chapel front door.

The Chapel became a part of the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion in 1826. The Connexion is a member of the Evangelical Alliance and of the Free Churches Group of Churches Together in England, and we support a sister group of churches in Sierra Leone through the Sierra Leone Mission.
